Weight loss is great, but what most people really want when they are trying to lose weight is to get rid of fat. Because while it would be nice to weigh less, if you are looking for a way to improve your looks, your health, your sexual appeal, or even your athletic performance it is more about less fat then less weight. So I went to a local health expert who is both a Chiropractor and a Fitness Trainer at the gym and asked him these important questions. Here’s how he answered:

1) HOW SHOULD I BE EXERCISING?

Exercise is a very important aspect in weight loss. You want to have a balance of both cardio and strength training to promote fat loss.

2) WHAT IS THE BEST TYPE OF CARDIO EXERCISES TO PROMOTE FAT LOSS?

When it comes to cardio many people think that the longer they exercise the more inches they will lose. However, it has been shown that running at an even pace for an extended period may not be the best way to approach trying to lose fat. Exercise routines that involve interval training are the most effective at burning fat in shorter workout sessions and helping you lose inches.

3) WHAT IS INTERVAL TRAINING?

Interval training involves alternating between high-intensity exercise and more moderate activity. For example, running for 2 minutes and then sprinting for 1 before returning to running.

4) WHY SHOULD I DO ANY STRENGTH TRAINING?

Strength training is an essential part of burning fat. Building up your lean muscle mass will help increase your metabolism and burn more calories when your body is at rest. Doing strength training will help burn calories and also help define your physique. Make sure to incorporate some weight training and/or muscle targeting exercises if you really want to get into shape.

5) HOW DO I SAFELY DIET TO BURN FAT?

Many people diet to loose weight and then gain the pounds right back. The key to successful dieting is to create a diet that has staying power. It is important to be choosing alternatives to things that you love and could be healthier. One place to start is to trade in sodas for water, it is surprising how many calories you drink in a day.

Another place to improve is to limit white carbs, switching to whole grains can have a very positive effect on your diet. Also switching to all natural foods as an alternative to over processed junk can be a great way to improve your health. If you have a craving for something sweet try a fruit instead of a candy bar. But, if you have to splurge the most important thing is to moderate your portion size and don’t over indulge.
