“Secrets of a Millionaire Mind” – Important Things the Rich Don’t Want You to Know

Google Buzz

When you compare Oprah and any other woman that works down at the local gas station, what’s their biggest difference? Upon first glance you might suggest it’s Oprah’s $2.7 billion of net worth, but Oprah wasn’t born with a silver spoon in her mouth; so how did she get out of the situation she was born into and make it to where she is today? I suggest that the only difference between these two women is their mindset.

Do you believe that success is hit-or-miss? Or that successful people are simply lucky, or they were probably born rich? If you do then you’ve got some work to do to achieve a millionaire mindset. In T. Harv Eker’s N.Y. Times #1 Bestseller Secrets of the Millionaire Mind™, he examines the hardwired programming around money that everyone has, and which unconsciously determines your financial success.

Your thoughts and feelings about money often stem from life experiences and influences you’ve had beginning in your childhood. For example, finish the following sentence. “Money is the root of … ….” Do you instantly finish the sentence with “all evil”? In other words, you are walking around 24 hours a day subconsciously saying “money is where all evil comes from”. The bad news is some of these ideologies were burnt into your brain long ago and often you aren’t even aware that you have them. The good news is you can reprogram your brain to have the millionaire mindset!

Your mind is currently programmed to keep you where you’re at – kind of like a thermostat. We are already programmed (from early childhood) to succeed up to certain levels and if we go higher, we don’t stay there – we somehow create a circumstance that brings us back down; and if we drop lower, we find a way to get back to our programmed level.

To gauge your temperature a bit, take a look at the following comparison on the different thought patterns between rich people and poor people:

Rich people believe “I create my life.” Poor people believe, “Life happens to me.”
• Rich people play the money game to win. Poor people play the money game to not lose.
• Rich people focus on opportunities. Poor people focus on obstacles.
• Rich people are bigger than their problems. Poor people are smaller than their problems.
• Rich people act in spite of fear. Poor people let fear stop them.
• Rich people constantly learn and grow. Poor people think they already know.

So how do you change the way you think? Eker says,

“Once you are conscious, you can see your programming for what it is: simply a recording of information you received and believed in the past, when you were too young to know any better. You can see that this conditioning is not who you are but who you learned to be. You can see that you are not the “recording” but the “recorder.” You are not the “content” in the glass but the “glass” itself.”

Once you’ve made this discovery you can respond appropriately to situations, tapping the full range and potential of your skills and talents, rather than inappropriately reacting to events, driven by the fears and insecurities of the past. Overcoming an old mindset takes a conscious concerted effort on a daily basis. One of the best tips I’ve found to create a new mindset is to put your time and energy into people who either already are or are in process of becoming millionaires. In other words, immerse yourself in people that already have the mindset! It’s just that simple, because very much like the saying, “you are what you eat”, you become what you think.
