One of the easiest things for a person to do is to actually visualize images in his mind. People may think that they do not have the capability to do that, but they actually do. This is so because the mind sees and works by imagining all the visual stimuli that your eyes have seen before. It would be difficult for you to imagine something that you have not seen before.

This particular ability of your mind is actually a great component for you to use when trying to meditate. Visualization can help make everything easier, especially if you are trying to get to a more relaxed and focused state that only meditation can give you.

How Do You Visualize?

A lot of people may not know how to properly visualize, but that does not mean that they are incapable of visualization, especially for meditation purposes. Visualizing is not that difficult to do since the most that you need to do for this type of relaxation exercise is that you must simply visualize or imagine what you want, or what you need to get to a more relaxed and focused state.

The first thing that you need to do is first pick a spot where you can perform the visualization and meditation exercise. Once youve done that, you simply need to take a relaxed posture. Just make sure that your spine is straight and upright. Then, take a few deep breaths, making sure that you hold your breath for a couple of seconds before exhaling. Repeat that about five times. Once youve done that, get back to breathing normally. Close your eyes to help you visualize better. It would also be a good idea to rest your hands on your lap, with your palms facing upward. Once you are in this relaxed state, you simply need to visualize an image of something that you really want, or a thing that you know would make you happy. It could be an image of you being surrounded with a lot of money. It could be an image of you eating your favorite food. It could be anything, as long as it can bring you to a nice place in your mind.

How Are Visualization And Meditation Connected?

Visualization is closely connected to meditation as visualization helps speed up your bodys healing. When you visualize, you can reach a more relaxed state at a much faster rate, allowing you to relieve your body of any stress, tension, and ailment that it may be experiencing. Meditation is all about getting your body to a meditative state, and you can achieve that better and faster if you can use the visualization technique to help your mind get to that state.

Breathing Techniques

One of the more important things to remember when performing this type of meditation exercise is that you must maintain proper breathing the whole time. A lot of people underestimate the power of breathing, when in fact, they shouldnt. If you cannot sustain proper breathing during this meditation exercise, you will not be able to relax properly, and be able to visualize the right way since you will be bothered by your lack of oxygen. When you breathe properly, you will be able to reduce your level of stress and anxiety, as well as lower your heart rate and blood pressure. You can achieve all this by simply breathing the right way. This is why a lot of meditation practices place a lot of value on breathing as a major part of the exercise.

Practice Makes Perfect

In order for you to become good at visualization, you need to learn how to do it properly. You may not be able to do it right the first time, which is why you need to perform it consistently on a regular basis. It is advisable that you do the visualization exercise for 15 to 20 minutes everyday for starters, just so you would be able to perform the exercise properly. Some people would prefer to do it during their free time within a day, but it would be best if you perform the exercises when you wake up, or before you go to sleep at night, especially if you are just starting out.
