Loss of Sleep Affect Your Body

Sleep itself helps your body regulate cell repair, blood pressure, and other very important body functions. It also helps your immune system remain strong so you can easily fight off infections. If your immune system is weakened due to prolonged loss of sleep, your body will not be able to adapt quickly to fight off germs and bacteria. The result will be you becoming sick much more often.

The strongest emotions and feelings are perceived by the hypothalamus, these emotions alter the functions of the hypothalamus and its connection to the pituitary gland. Respiratory, skin, circulatory and gastrointestinal diseases caused or aggravated by nervous tension are a result of this change. We can say that psychosomatic illness is a psychological component, the manifestation of organic diseases are caused by emotional problems.

Exercises increase mental acuity that on average lasts seven hours after exercises. People who exercise on a regular basis have a higher quality of sleep and thus require less sleep.

Thus we have a kind of correlation between sleep, exercises and weight loss: when you exercise you sleep less, when you sleep less your body accumulates less amount of fat, when you exercises you also burn fat. Normal duration of sleep and exercises on average help you to burn 30% of fat accumulated by your body.

Some people claim to function optimally with as little three to five hours of sleep. However, for most people getting seven or eight hours is more optimal for maintaining good health. Because the number of hours necessary can vary from person to person, it is best to just pay attention to your own body and the changes in mood or attention span that may occur when you loose sleep. The loss of one hour of sleep in a night may produce subtle impairment of your cognitive abilities that you may not even notice.

If you happen to consume an unhealthy diet you shouldn’t be surprised that you are gaining weight; however, if you a physically fit individual who eats weight friendly meals you should expect to be thin. Nonetheless, that is not always the case. Sometimes people who exercise regularly and eat healthy end up gaining extra pounds. In this article I will discus one important reason behind this mysterious weight gain.   One of the main reasons behind weight gain is lack of sleep.

Recent studies have revealed that a lack of sleep can lead to feelings of hunger, even though you are satiated, and this leads to the body storing more fat. This is because a lack of sleep stimulates production of certain stress hormones including cortisone, and cortisone in turn stimulates our appetites. It is further theorized that lack of sleep can impair the body’s ability to metabolize carbohydrates.

A few months back I was working until the evening. Then in again very early in the morning. It took me hours to unwind and I ended up in bed much too late. I had to be up at 4am. So I accumulated a lot of lost Z’s! I noticed the usual signs of sleep deprivation. Being easily stressed, unfocused and lacking energy as a few examples. What I never expected was actually the first thing I noticed. I was ALWAYS hungry. I could not control my appetite! I put on a few pounds rather quickly as a result.

Lack of sleep can definitely put a damper on your daily glow. A sleepless night can instantly change your appearance by adding unavoidable puffy and red eyes. However, aside from overnight damage, sleepless nights also cause deeper damage. When we are tired we release the stress hormone known as cortisol. When cortisol levels are high in the body, they start to break down the collagen in skin. Even one sleep disruption can cause your immune system to turn against healthy tissue.

The first thing is that stress-related health issues can creep up on you. While stress can be traced directly to a specific source, say, an accident or the death of a loved one, it can also be a great deal more insidious than that. If conditions at your workplace have been going steadily downhill, you might find stress problems creeping up on you.
