Important Facts about Insomnia

Insomnia is a condition that affects thousands or even millions of people. In several studies, it is said that almost 50 percent of the total or overall population suffer from this condition. 10 percent of the population is said to suffer from chronic insomnia, a type of insomnia that can last for more than a month.

Insomnia, also known as wakefulness, is caused by many different factors. Among the many factors that can cause this condition include stress. It may also be caused by psychological problems like depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder.

Wakefulness may also be caused by other health problems, which include arthritis, hyperthyroidism, Parkinson’s disease, brain tumors, GERD, strokes, trauma, congestive heart failure and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Some types of medicines are also known to cause this condition. Such medications include antibiotic drugs and stimulants. Caffeine, alcohol and nicotine are also among the many factors that can cause wakefulness.

Aside from this, sleep problems like restless legs syndrome are also factors that can cause insomnia. Studies have proven that poor sleeping hygiene may also be the reason for wakefulness.

Insomnia basically has three classifications. First is transient insomnia, it is characterized as a type of insomnia that lasts not more than a week. Acute insomnia, the second type of wakefulness is known to last not more than a month. And lastly, chronic insomnia is a type of wakefulness that can last more than 30 days or one month.

When dealing with wakefulness, it is best to use natural methods. Taking medications like sleeping pills will only provide you with temporary relief against wakefulness; they are not known to cure this type of condition.

Natural methods are not only effective in getting rid of insomnia; they are also risk free. Many people have performed relaxation methods like meditation to eliminate insomnia. They have been proven to be effective not only in dealing with it is also helpful in dealing with other sleep problems and health problems.
