How do you think you would feel if you could actually set a goal and accomplished it? Imagine yourself next year this time when you have accomplished that one goal in your life that you know will make a huge difference in your self esteem and/or lifestyle.

Go ahead, imagine it. Really. See yourself in a different place. Take a few minutes and let your imagination take you there to that place of success.

Beginning with the most powerful tool, let’s take a look at three ways to improve your chances to beat procrastination.

Use your imagination
Your brain is an amazing organ, and using it to see yourself in a different light is one of the tools that you can use to move in a positive direction. Imagining yourself in a better situation is a trick you can play on your mind. It is one of the most widely used techniques in sports psychology during the training of competitive athletes.
The converse is also used by behaviorist psychologists. That is to see yourself in a situation where you don’t accomplish your desired objective. You imagine yourself in a very painful place in life and the fear of that imagination is supposed to make you want to take the steps necessary to avoid failure.

Take a picture
Another very effective tool is to give yourself a visual reminder. Place a picture somewhere that you will see it daily and remind yourself of your objective. It could be anything that will key your brain to think about the awesome benefits of attaining your goal. For instance, if you want to lose some of that ugly fat around your middle, cut out an ad of a model in underwear. They don’t use fat people in those ads, and you can use it to imagine yourself looking like that. Or use a picture of your dream house to motivate you toward your objective of better financial times. You get the picture?

Write it down
Write down your plan and review it daily. Start your day by reviewing your written objectives. While a detailed plan of attack with benchmarks and action steps is even better, don’t overwhelm yourself when you start. It will just discourage you and put you back in your comfort zone of doing nothing. Start by just writing down your major objective and review it daily.
Keeping your written goals in front of your eyes is actually a biblical principal for success. In the Bible the Israelites were told to keep the Word of God in front of them at all times to remind them of God’s faithfulness. This works for other areas of life, as well as the spiritual area.

These are three very powerful psychological tools to help beat procrastination, and they are not difficult. However, the only way they will help is if you implement them. Don’t put this off again. Good intentions are of no value in the goal setting arena. You must put your plan into action.

It’s OK to start slowly, but don’t delay, and don’t ever stop.
DO NOT say that you will start tomorrow. Start today. Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

You are created equally along with the most successful people on the planet. You have in you the tools necessary for greatness. Start using them today and begin to beat procrastination.
